One of our favorite new bands PSYCHIC TWIN (Urbana, IL) will bring their breathtaking electronic pop to the Cats Purring Dude Ranch on Saturday 1/21/2012. Our other favorite new band of psych-pop hitmakers ILLLS (Oxford, MS) are also on the bill, and Cats Purring DJs will be spinning apocalyptic party tunes all night. Cats Purring favorites PRINCE RAMA return to Oxford, MS for the 3rd time this Tuesday 11/22 at the DUDE RANCH! Raised in Hare Krishna communities of Texas and Florida but based in Brooklyn, NY, sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson have made quite a reputation with their unpredictable live shows that blur the line between performance art, psychedelic ritual, and pop spectacle. They have a great new record TRUST NOW out via our friends at PAW TRACKS (Animal Collective, Ariel Pink, Dent May, Black Dice, etc).

Many of you will remember brothers Josh and Jakob Clark from their much loved band LIVING BETTER ELECTRICALLY, who terrorized Jackson, MS for years and hugely influenced all the Cats Purring bands. Their new project BOY is getting tons of love in Austin, and we're thrilled to present their first show back in Mississippi.

In addition, Oxford, MS trash-pop idols FLIGHT will debut a new live line-up, and hallucinogenic one-man-band GRAY THINGS will open the evening. Openers WHITE FENCE (Los Angeles/San Francisco, CA) play a delightfully warped brand of lysergic 60s psych-pop. Altered Zones describes their brilliant album IS GROWING FAITH as "absolute ramshackle-scatterbrain-chaos, revealing an equal affinity for the acid-soaked psychedelia of Syd-era Floyd and the noise-caked post-punk of The Fall."

Many of you know we lost a beloved member of our family earlier this week, PEYTON "LARRY" HOUCHINS a.k.a. DJ SCARY MILK a.k.a. DJ KATE BUSCH. Peyton performed with GRAY THINGS and BASS DRUM OF DEATH, and he provided endless support to our music scene in Mississippi. He will continue to be a source of inspiration for his seemingly infinite number of friends, and we look forward to expanding the Cats Purring empire in his memory.

Brooklyn's PRINCE RAMA and Chicago's LIGHT POLLUTION will be joining us for yet another psychedelic house party at the CATS PURRING TEEN WING in Taylor, MS on Sunday 10/10/10. Although the bands will play around 9pm, please come earlier as we'll be hanging out all day. Directions and more details after the jump.

Our address is 662 County Road-303 Taylor, MS 38673. If you're coming from Hwy 6, take CR-303 (also known as Old Taylor Road) south toward the town of Taylor. After about 6 miles, the road narrows as you're entering Taylor. We're the first driveway on the right AFTER you pass the sign for Carter's Grocery.

Please bring your own beer and at least FIVE DOLLARS for the touring bands. This is not optional! Also, help us out by carpooling, as parking is a bit limited. If our driveway fills up, we'll be directing partygoers to a nearby street to park on. DO NOT park on Old Taylor Road and DO NOT drink & drive.

TOMMY TOUSSAINT - "COSMIC CAVERNS"

CATS PURRING is proud to present COSMIC CAVERNS, a free digital E.P. of new material from TOMMY TOUSSAINT. Tommy was living in Athens, Georgia, where he played with RED LEGS and LITTLE FRANCIS and spent his spare time exploring caverns of the Deep South. More recently, he's traveled the world as a member of DENT MAY's band. According to Tommy, these six songs were recorded "in a cave in North Georgia," and the E.P. was mastered by Neil Zumwalde, who has worked with VELVET DAVENPORT. Drawing from influences as diverse as new jack swing, 60s pop, new age, and all forms of psychedelia, COSMIC CAVERNS is a warped and wonderful slice of pop magic.

BUFFALO MOON of Minneapolis (via Ecuador and South Dakota) will bring their wonderful bossanova/psych/pop sound to RED STAR on Wednesday 8/18. Their forthcoming 7" single on the great MOON GLYPH (Velvet Davenport, PC Worship, etc) has been receiving widespread acclaim, which is well-deserved considering the tropical perfection of its b-side "Low Tide Moon" (available HERE).

CHELSEA BOYS (also of Minneapolis) will be opening the show with their highly energetic synth-pop. The MN DAILY describes their performance as "a splash of Nintendo, a dollop of cocaine, a sprinkle of Black Flag and an ocean of sex," so in other words you're insane if you sleep on this one.
