PHIL THOMAS KATT - "COMPETITION"

Since 1996, PHIL THOMAS KATT (alongside co-host Tommy Robinetti) has been the face of THE UNCHARTED ZONE, the extraordinary Gulf Coast public access music program with a growing cult following thanks to the weird and wonderful videos Katt has produced for MARK GORMLEY and many others from Pensacola, FL and beyond.

Over the past 25 years or so, Katt himself has been assembling a catalogue of off-kilter pop music that fans of home recording favorites R. STEVIE MOORE and ARIEL PINK will surely flip for. The [insert adjective here] Phil Thomas Katt has a brand new album DECLAWED available for purchase HERE now, and we're excited to present one of its standout tracks "COMPETITION," streaming below:

As a bonus, scope this classic video for "THOSE NITES," from Katt's excellent 1993 album CURIOUS:

BOY + FLIGHT + GRAY THINGS @ CATS PURRING DUDE RANCH 9/9/11

We're psyched to welcome Austin, TX glam-psych group BOY to the Cats Purring Dude Ranch on Friday 9/9/11. Their new project BOY is getting tons of love in Austin, and we're thrilled to present their first show back in Mississippi.

In addition, Oxford, MS trash-pop idols FLIGHT will debut a new live line-up, and hallucinogenic one-man-band GRAY THINGS will open the evening. The party is BYOB, and we'll be charging $5 at the door. Bands start at 9pm. As always, drinking & driving is not allowed at our parties! Call a taxi if you're tipsy.

GRAY THINGS - "CLASS"

"CLASS" is the latest single from GRAY THINGS, the project of Dude Ranch resident and Dent May collaborator THOMAS COOPER. "CLASS" finds GRAY THINGS moving away from the darker paranoid sound heard on last year's split with DEAD GAZE and toward a warmer, kaleidoscopic, electronic psych-pop sound. The track was recorded with production help from Dent May at his HITS INC studio at the Dude Ranch.

WOODS + WHITE FENCE + VOYAGEURS @ CATS PURRING DUDE RANCH 8/7/11

It's been a while since our last house show at the CATS PURRING DUDE RANCH, and we've put together a summer slammer you can't miss this Sunday 8/7/11.

Brooklyn, NY's WOODS (founders of the legendary WOODSIST label) will bring the sound Pitchfork calls "a distinctive blend of spooky campfire folk, lo-fi rock, homemade tape collages, and other noisy interludes, all anchored by deceptively sturdy melodies."

Openers WHITE FENCE (Los Angeles/San Francisco, CA) play a delightfully warped brand of lysergic 60s psych-pop. Altered Zones describes their brilliant album IS GROWING FAITH as "absolute ramshackle-scatterbrain-chaos, revealing an equal affinity for the acid-soaked psychedelia of Syd-era Floyd and the noise-caked post-punk of The Fall."

[UPDATE: VOYAGEURS (Fayetteville, AR) have joined the bill at the last minute!]

CATS PURRING DJs will be spinning party jams all night. Doors open at 8pm, and bands start at 9pm sharp. Cover charge is $7. BYOB, but absolutely no drinking & driving is tolerated at the Dude Ranch. Taxi info will be on hand. See y'all Sunday.
