ALEX BLEEKER & THE FREAKS + THE ADULTS @ LAMAR LOUNGE 3/19/13

One of our favorite humans currently living in this universe is a guy from New Jersey named ALEX BLEEKER. He has a band called ALEX BLEEKER & THE FREAKS, and he also happens to play in another classic band of the era called REAL ESTATE. 

THE FREAKS filter the breezy suburban pop that his other band is known for through a headier folk rock lens that's perhaps more indebted to The Grateful Dead and Neil Young than to C86 jangle. ALEX BLEEKER & THE FREAKS have a new album dropping soon on the legendary WOODSIST RECORDS, and they're stopping through LAMAR LOUNGE tomorrow night (3/19) to perform some tunes for you Oxford kids. 

Local sweethearts THE ADULTS, quite possibly the most promising young group in the area, will open the show. Tuesdays also happen to be LADIES NIGHT at the lounge, so females get 2 for 1 drinks. Doors are at 9pm. Cover charge is $5. See y'all there.

NATURAL CHILD + UNWED TEENAGE MOTHERS @ LAMAR LOUNGE 2/25/13

Nashville, TN sleazy throwback rock n rollers NATURAL CHILD will be at LAMAR LOUNGE this Monday night 2/25/13. These dudes work hard. They tour constantly, and they've got their third album in as many years out soon on the unstoppable BURGER RECORDS. Fans of Nashville's increasingly visible garage rock scene (see also: Jeff The Brotherhood, Pujol, Diarrhea Planet, etc) will not want to miss this one. 

Local faves UNWED TEENAGE MOTHERS will be opening up. Cover charge is $5. Doors at 9pm.

CATS PURRING SPRING BREAK: DUCKTAILS + CHRIS COHEN + EMPRESS OF + MOON KING + IDIOT GLEE + CAVEMAN @ CATS PURRING DUDE RANCH 3/10/13

We're overjoyed to announce the first show at the CATS PURRING DUDE RANCH in almost a year, and the line up is pretty crazy. CATS PURRING SPRING BREAK is going down Sunday 3/10/13, which is also right before that thing going on in Austin, TX for all you road trippers. Here's who we've got on the bill:

DUCKTAILS is the project of Real Estate guitarist Matt Mondanile. Their great new album "The Flower Lane" finds Matt ditching the loopy lo-fi experimental soundscapes of his past in favor of a glossier and funkier widescreen sound with members of Big Troubles as his new bandmates.

CHRIS COHEN has played in bands ranging from Deerhoof to Haunted Graffiti to Cass Mccombs and many more. His solo debut album "Overgrown Path" on Captured Tracks is a homemade psych-pop classic, one of our favorites in recent memory.

EMPRESS OF is a relatively new project from Brooklyn's Lorely Rodriguez, a former member of Celestial Shores who has taken the internet by storm with her infectious synth-pop jammers.

MOON KING is a dreamy Canadian duo founded by Daniel Benjamin, who also plays with his brother Airick in Doldrums. Their debut E.P. "Obsession I" is not to be missed.

IDIOT GLEE is the moniker of Lexington, KY's James Friley, a charming pop wunderkind who is no stranger to Oxford, MS.

CAVEMAN is a great NYC band with a new album on the way from our friends at Fat Possum.

This party is going to start early. We're hanging out all day cooking burgers and what not. Doors are at 4pm, and the cover charge is $10, a steal for 6 bands if you ask us. PSYCHIC ILLS + CLOUDLAND CANYON @ LAMAR LOUNGE 2/18/13

New York art rock legends in the making PSYCHIC ILLS are bringing their experimental psych tunes to LAMAR LOUNGE this Monday night 2/18/13. They're touring in support of their excellent new album "ONE TRACK MIND," which features contributions from Neil Hagerty of Royal Trux fame and is being released by the great NY label Sacred Bones. Opening the show will be Memphis, TN's krauty weirdo pop collective CLOUDLAND CANYON, who you can read about in this nice Altered Zones profile from a couple years back. Doors are at 9pm. Cover charge is $5. See y'all there!

PC WORSHIP + R. COLE FURLOW @ LAMAR LOUNGE 2/11/13

Hey Oxford, listen up. Our old pals PC WORSHIP are bringing their "East Coast / Florida Mardi Gras Meltdown & Valentine Cook Off" tour to Lamar Lounge on Monday night 2/11. They're celebrating the release of their new album "BEAT PUNK," the contents of which AD HOC describes as "mutant soul ditties, dementedly wandering through grunge, punk, and free jazz." The record also happens to be coming out on the excellent NEW IMAGES label (run by our dear friend Matt Mondanile of DUCKTAILS and REAL ESTATE notoriety), so we're pretty pumped about its release.

Opening up is the boy R. COLE FURLOW from DEAD GAZE playing an intimate solo set. Don't say we didn't warn you about this one. Doors are at 9pm, and cover charge is $5. See y'all there.

A few years ago, a psych band of delinquents from San Francisco called CCR HEADCLEANER played one of the weirdest, most intense sets we've ever seen in Oxford. If you were there, you remember. If not, come check out POLLEN SEASON (also known as DREAMCLEANER), a project by our dear old friend Al of CCR HEADCLEANER, Tuesday 2/5/13 at Lamar Lounge.

Also playing the show will be excellent Memphis, TN punk band MANATEES. They have a new 7" out produced by JACK OBLIVIAN. We recently saw them shred with QUINTRON & MISS PUSSYCAT, and it was good times. Come out and play on a Tuesday night. Doors 9pm. Cover $5.

With a new album just over the horizon, local rock n roll degenerates done good BASS DRUM OF DEATH will be playing a #rare hometown show at Proud Larry's this Friday 1/25. Also playing the show will be our pal TYLER KEITH (whose recent "Outlaw Biker" rock opera has been getting rave reviews). Cole from DEAD GAZE will be DJing party jammers all night. DIARRHEA PLANET + PUJOL @ LAMAR LOUNGE 1/24/13

Many of you may will remember Nashville, TN's DIARRHEA PLANET and PUJOL, both of whom have previously shredded through Oxford, MS to much acclaim. If heavy garage punk riffage with four guitarists on stage is your bag, Infinity Cat recording artists DIARRHEA PLANET will not disappoint at Lamar Lounge this Thursday 1/24.

Also on the bill is the great PUJOL, who have been making waves across the globe with their "hooky, howly, and smart brand of garage rock" (quoth WNYC). They've also collaborated with America's favorite vinyl record salesman Jack White. The party starts at 10pm. Cover is $5. See y'all there.

The Village Voice describes Brooklyn, NY's AVA LUNA as "Stax meets Kraftwerk," and if that doesn't tickle your fancy, then what the fuck are you doing looking at this website?
