FUTURE ISLANDS (members of Dan Deacon's ensemble) and LOWER DENS (new band from Jana Hunter) are two delightful bands from Baltimore associated with the prolific WHAM CITY collective. They'll be joined by Oxford's JUNK CULTURE at POWERHOUSE this Wednesday 5/12. Starts at 8 pm. Cover is $5.

Hey, friends. Summer's pretty much here and we're celebrating with a special country-western shindig this Thursday (5/6/10) @ The Lyric's Red Star Bar.

Early in the evening AIRSHIPS will be spinning classic records from the golden age of country.

Then at 10:30, DENT MAY will perform a rare country set, featuring original material from COWBOY MALONEY'S ELECTRIC CITY (forthcoming multimedia collaboration w/ Michael Bible & others) + standards, etc.

After the set, AIRSHIPS will drop 80s & 90s country stompers til the bar closes.

SPACE @ BOZARTS GALLERY 4/16

We don't know much anything about BOZARTS GALLERY in Water Valley, MS, but the program for their outer space themed art opening this Friday (4/16) includes "astral video projections," a performance by theremin genius THOMAS GRILLO, and a celestial multimedia presentation introduced by THIS mysterious moustached man. FLIGHT NYC DEBUT

Hey New Yorkers, sorry for the late notice, but the sleazed out Mississippi psych band FLIGHT are making their NYC debut this weekend. Tonight (3/26/10) they join forces with Philly's READING RAINBOW at the CAKE SHOP in Manhattan. Then, tomorrow (3/27/10) they'll head to DEATH BY AUDIO in Brooklyn, where they play with the riff-heavy Australian girl groop BEACHES. You can hear a couple of their tunes HERE and HERE. CATS PURRING BANDS AT SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST

Here's a list of SXSW shows from four awesome Mississippi bands-- BASS DRUM OF DEATH, DEAD GAZE, THE UNWED TEENAGE MOTHERS, and YOUNG BUFFALO. As anyone familiar with the festival knows, all times are subject to change and you'll most likely end up at a fratty 6th street bar watching a 311 cover band with coked-up midwestern hotties or soaking in a hot tub full of piss and vomit 45 minutes outside of Austin which is probably all for the better.
